CHANGE Family Engagement Initiative
Organizing and Empowering Families for an Effective Educational Alliance
PURPOSE OF INITIATIVE:
Families and schools share responsibility for student success. A commitment to family engagement means that schools and community-based organizations reach out to families in meaningful ways and families are committed to actively supporting their children’s learning and development. This responsibility continues from birth through young adulthood and recognizes that learning takes place in the home, school, and community.
CHANGE’S COMMITMENT:
Parent Oath
In November 2009 more than 90 parents and guardians signed an oath with CHANGE to share responsibility for the quality education of our youth.
Family Engagement for Student Success
CHANGE has partnered with the United Way, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, and the YMCA to engage parents of and rising 7th and 8th graders in feeder middle schools for Carver, Parkland, and Atkins High Schools. Special interest: Develop special practices for middle school transition to high school
